The first stretch passes through Rabanal del Camino, a charming pilgrim village with a strong monastic history, before continuing on to El Ganso, a tiny hamlet with rustic thatched-roof buildings that feel little changed over the centuries. The road here is quiet and rural, winding through open moorland and scattered oak woods typical of this high plateau.
Continuing on, the route passes through Santa Colomba de Somoza and Murias de Rechivaldo, both classic Maragatería villages with solid stone houses and a real sense of rural tradition. The terrain is gentle throughout, making for a relaxed and scenic ride as the landscape slowly opens up.
The day finishes in Astorga, a historic town perched above the plain, known for its striking Gaudí-designed Episcopal Palace and its Gothic cathedral — a fitting and rewarding end point after a morning spent riding through the heart of Maragatería.
